Here’s who you named Centre Daily Times Boys and Girls Athlete of the Week for May 16-21

Two State College track and field athletes were named the Centre Daily Times Boys and Girls Athletes of the Week for May 16-21.

State College boys track and field’s Ryan Lindenberg won with 54% of the vote (1,564 votes). Bellefonte track and field’s Eric Bennett finished second with 39% of the vote (1,125 votes), followed by Penns Valley baseball’s McClain Welshans, who had 3% of the vote (79 votes).

Lindenberg led the boys with a win in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.30 and the boys 300-meter hurdles (39.68) at the District 6 Class 3A championship on May 19.

In the poll for Girls Athlete of the Week, State College girls track and field’s Shannon Mullin won with 48% of the vote (1,560 votes). Bellefonte track and field’s Ella Underwood placed second with 22% of the vote (705 votes), followed by Bald Eagle track and field’s Abby Hoover, who had 19% of the vote (606 votes).

Mullin not only was strong enough in the triple jump to break her personal record, but she broke the District 6 record that Rachel Gehret set in 2006 with a 39-03.00 jump. Mullin leaped through the air with a jump of 39-11.50 to set the record on May 19 at the District 6 Class 3A championship. Mullin also won the district championship in the long jump (18-08.25).
