Poll results: Bald Eagle Area football player selected as CDT Athlete of the Week
With the high school sports season underway, readers of CentreDaily.com selected a Bald Eagle Area football player as athlete of the week in the first poll of the season.
For the week of Aug. 21-27, senior lineman Alex Lefebvre made an impact on both sides of the ball for Bald Eagle as the team beat Bishop Guilfoye 17-7 to begin the year. Lefebvre finished with seven tackles, multiple quarterback pressures and a sack on defense and four pancake blocks on offense in the game.
He took 71% of the poll, with 2,019 votes.
Here were the other nominees:
Ty Watson, Penns Valley football: Penns Valley senior running back Ty Watson helped the Rams in their season opening 33-12 victory over Bellwood-Antis. Watson ran the ball 19 times for 191 yards and a touchdown in the game to lead the team.
Sherman Lowry, Bellefonte football: Bellefonte began the Tony Confer era on Aug. 25 and senior running back — and captain — Sherman Lowry was effective on offense. He ran the ball nine times for 58 yards and added a reception for 14 yards along with 31 return yards on one kickoff return in the team’s 49-0 loss.
Ty Salazer, State College football: State College junior Ty Salazer did it all for the Little Lions in the team’s season opener. Salazer finished with 257 all-purpose yards in the game, tallying three catches for 139 yards and a receiving touchdown and two carries for nine yards along with a 50-yard punt return touchdown. On defense he added two pass breakups and five tackles in his team’s 49-20 win.
Ella Tambroni, State College field hockey: State College’s Ella Tambroni scored a hat trick by netting three goals in the team’s season opener. The Michigan State field hockey commit helped the team to a 9-1 victory over North Allegheny in the game.
Jakodi Jones, Philipsburg-Osceola football: Philipsburg-Osceola senior running back Jakodi Jones led the way for the Mounties in their season opener against Huntingdon. He carried the ball 17 times for 107 yards and three touchdowns and added a reception for 52 yards. The senior also added a fumble recovery in the team’s 35-7 win.
Jones came in second in the poll, with 671 votes.
For the CDT’s Athlete of the Week polls this season, we will take nominations from all six county athletic departments for both a boys’ and girls’ athlete of the week. (Since not all fall sports had started for the week of Aug. 21-27, there was only one poll.)
Voting for this poll ended Sunday. As a reminder, the poll is not scientific and just for fun. In fact, we invite you to vote as many times as you want. Look for future polls at CentreDaily.com.
