Bellefonte baseball is the CDT’s Athletes of the Week

With the first PIAA baseball championship in school history, the Bellefonte baseball team has been named the Centre Daily Times Athletes of the Week.

The Red Raiders defeated Susquehanna Township 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the Class AAA title. The program had never been past the state semifinals before this season.

Dom Masullo pitched a complete-game, five-hit shutout in the final, and Tyler Kreger had an RBI single to drive in the winning run.

After starting the year with a 1-7 record, Bellefonte (16-11) got hot at the right time, rolling off nine straight wins and outscoring opponents 44-17. In the PIAA tournament, the Raiders beat Chartiers Valley 2-1, Cathedral Prep 1-0 and Hamburg 5-4 to make it to the championship game.
