North Carolina State edges Penn State womens’ gymnastics
No. 17 Penn State was edged 194.700-194.125 by No. 27 North Carolina State on Saturday at Rec Hall in the Nittany Lions’ season opener.
“The two events that we had the most concern for before the meet were vault and floor and the girls really rose up and did a great job there,” coach Jeff Thompson said. “We hit vault and floor, but the things we weren’t worried about, bars and beam, are where we had our little mistakes.”
Nittany Lion Briana Tsang earned a first-place tie with Chelsea Knight with 9.825 in the vault.
Penn State’s Kiera Brown, Sabrina Garcia, and Chanen Raygoza made a sweep of the uneven bars. Teammate Jessica Jones took home the floor exercise win.
However, North Carolina State’s Nicole Wild and Chelsea Knight were victorious in the the balance beam and all-around.
Penn State (0-1) will host Nebraska on Saturday.
