Pair of network rules analysts say officials missed obvious penalty on Bengals TD
The Cincinnati Bengals opened the second half of Super Bowl LVI with a lightning bolt of a play.
Trailing by three at halftime, the Bengals needed all of 12 seconds to take their first lead of the game as Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow connected on a 75-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tee Higgins.
Initially, the NBC broadcast crew said Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey had slipped, allowing Higgins to score the touchdown.
But replay showed Ramsey didn’t slip.
A pair of network rules analysts said the Super Bowl officials missed a pretty obvious call. Here is what Gene Steratore of CBS Sports wrote on Twitter: “On the long TD to start the 3rd quarter, Tee Higgins should’ve been flagged for a facemask and/or pass interference”.
Fox Sports analyst Mike Pereira wrote: “Not a good start of the second half. The pulling of the facemask should have been interference or a face mask penalty.”
NBC Sports’ Cris Collinsworth later called that touchdown “the most controversial play of the night.”
