State College police have turned over the case of a missing Penn State associate professor to state police.
Local authorities launched a missing person’s case on Tuesday for Ronald Bettig, 56, of College Township. The case was turned over to state police on Wednesday.
Police Lt. Keith Robb, when asked why the case was turned over, did not give an explanation.
Bettig was last seen at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. His vehicle, a maroon 2010 Ford Focus with Pennsylvania license plate HJL 5155, is also missing.

According to his College of Communications profile, Bettig joined the college in 1988 and is an associate professor of media studies.
