Bellefonte man facing felony charges

A Bellefonte man is facing felony charges after allegedly trying to break into a home to fight another person.

John Albright, 27, attempted to break into a residence off West Linn Street, according to an affidavit of probable cause. A man at the residence told police, who arrived at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, that Albright pounded on the back door and yelled to be let in.

The man, according to the affidavit, did not respond. Albright continued to hit the door with increasing force, police said, demanded to be let inside and kicked the door and a window air conditioning unit.

A Bellefonte police officer observed a screen door lock on the back patio, a boot print on the back door and fresh grass clipping with the boot print. The officer photographed the boot print.

A Spring Township officer located Albright on East Linn Street, and the police officers matched Albright’s boot tread to the boot print on the door, according to the affidavit. Police then interviewed three witnesses, who were with Albright. Each person provided separate statements that Albright wanted to fight someone at the residence, pounded on the door and repeatedly yelled “I’m gonna beat your a**,” until he ran from the scene.

Albright was charged with felony criminal attempt — burglary and felony criminal attempt — trespassing. He was also charged with disorderly conduct by engaging in a fight, harassment by subjecting another person to physical contact and criminal mischief by tampering with property, all summary offenses.

He was released on $25,000 unsecured bail set by District Judge Allen Sinclair. A preliminary hearing was scheduled to be at 8:30 a.m. July 19.
