Penn State safety Troy Apke earns MVP honors in NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

Penn State safety Troy Apke may have been the only Nittany Lion to play in Saturday’s NFLPA Collegiate Bowl — but he made his impact felt.

Apke, an honorable mention on the All-Big Ten team, earned the all-star game’s MVP honors after intercepting a pass and returning it 56 yards in his National Team’s 23-0 shutout over American at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. Apke’s team was coached by NFL legend Darrell Green.

According to the Associated Press, 12 players at last season’s Collegiate Bowl were selected in the NFL draft.

The western Pennsylvania product started 12 games this past season, while recording 55 tackles, an interception, six pass deflections and a blocked kick. He appeared in 46 career games.
