A store that has been in the Nittany Mall for more than 20 years will soon close

The attrition of the Nittany Mall will continue as Express plans to close Jan. 26, a corporate communications director said Wednesday.

The clothing store, which has been in the Nittany Mall since 1996, employed about 20 people, Express communications director Alysa Spittle said. Employees were told about the closing Dec. 30.

She declined to say why the store closed, but said the company is “always evaluating its portfolio.”

A liquidation sale with progressively deeper discounts is ongoing. The store’s furniture and fixtures are also for sale, Spittle said.

The nearest Express to Centre County is at the Capitol City Mall in Cumberland County or the Wyoming Valley Mall in Luzerne County.

Mall general manager Polly Welch did not immediately respond Wednesday to a request for comment.
