The Original Waffle Shop was competing against itself.

The restaurant’s two locations — 1610 W. College Ave. and 1229 N. Atherton St., both in Ferguson Township — took the top two spots in our unscientific poll that asked readers to vote for their favorite breakfast or brunch spot in Centre County.

Out of 1,008 poll participants, the West College Avenue location won 32% of the vote. The North Atherton Street location wasn’t far behind, winning 30%. The Naked Egg Cafe finished third.

Owner John Dimakopoulos opened the West College Avenue eatery in 1998. It was his fourth Waffle Shop at the time, in addition to locations in downtown State College and Bellefonte.

He sold those two locations more than a decade ago, opting to focus on his two remaining breakfast businesses.
