This resale store is closing soon but moving to a new location in State College
A State College resale store is closing soon, but frequent customers won’t need to travel far for their next visit.
Uptown Cheapskate will close its location at 176 Rolling Ridge Drive on April 21 before moving its operations to a new storefront in downtown State College, the local franchise said in an Instagram post on Friday. The consignment shop’s new location is expected to open on May 1 at 522 E. College Ave. on the first floor of the Barcroft building.
Uptown Cheapskate’s State College team posted a short video clip offering a glimpse into the new space, which required substantial construction before opening.
Before closing its Hills Plaza location after more than five years in business, Uptown Cheapskate will run special sales between April 16 and 19, the store said. Customers will receive 20% off all items on April 16 and 17 before the all-store discount jumps to 30% on April 18 and 19.
Uptown Cheapskate’s store is open in State College from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, while its buying counter runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on those days. It’s unclear if those hours will change once the franchise moves to its new storefront.
Uptown Cheapskate pays instant cash or in-store trade value for gently used clothing and accessories, with high-demand seasonal items fetching the best prices, the company says. Each store’s goods, which are primarily marketed toward teens and young adults, are available for sale at discount prices.
First launched in Salt Lake City, Utah, Uptown Cheapskate now runs more than 130 locations across 23 states, the company’s website says. It is the sister franchise of Kid to Kid, which focuses on children’s needs and maternity wear and operates a State College location at 154 Rolling Ridge Drive.
