A new fast-casual restaurant chain is expected to open a location inside a State College high-rise.

Tikka Shack Indian Grub will open a downtown restaurant inside the 12-story oLiv Hetzel building at 448 E. College Ave., according to the property’s real estate agent, Kandy Weader of Bennett Williams. She told the Centre Daily Times she expects the location to open “in about six months.”

Tikka Shack’s menu features a wide range of bowls featuring grilled meats and curry, kebabs and wraps, plus chicken wings, naan pizzas and even naan tacos. Other starter dishes include samosas, masala fries and vegetable cutlets.

The restaurant’s offerings include vegetarian options, varying spice levels and a children’s menu. Tikka Shack also offers catering options and a rewards program for regular customers.

“Tikka Shack serves up the best in Indian cuisine, while slinging samosas in a friendly, casual atmosphere,” the chain wrote on its website. “Both the dining environment and the menu have been carefully curated to captivate our guests with the aromatic flavors of India through the artful creation of blended spices. Our lineup of menu offerings provides a variety of traditional Indian dishes, as well as simplified pairings, offering options for both the newbie foodie and the curry connoisseur.”

Tikka Shack currently operates 18 locations across the country, including four restaurants in Pennsylvania — Mechanicsburg, Hershey, Lancaster and Clarion. The Texas-headquartered chain has at least one restaurant in eight states, ranging from Maryland and Virginia to Florida and Arizona.

Hours for each Tikka Shack location vary, but most are open until at least 9 or 10 p.m. daily, according to the chain’s website.

Tikka Shack will open alongside Big Chicken, the fast-casual chain founded by former basketball star Shaquille O’Neal, beneath the oLiv Hetzel high-rise. Several other fast-casual restaurants — including the Benny Leone’s pizza shop and Honeygrow — plan to open soon in State College.
