Wawa will host an event in Centre County next month to help lay the groundwork as it expands into central Pennsylvania.

The Philadelphia-based company will host a “community partnership day” in State College on Tuesday, Sept. 9, to help market its under-development convenience stores and gas stations in the area. The event comes as Wawa prepares to develop at least three locations across Centre County.

The community event, held at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center from 10 to 11:30 a.m., will include presentations from Wawa officials, networking sessions and opportunities to taste the company’s signature hoagies, coffees and other drinks. Guests can also check out on-site exhibits and learn more about upcoming job opportunities, the company said.

Wawa President Brian Schaller said the event serves to help his company learn more about the State College area, too.

“Whenever we enter a new market, we want to get to know our communities long before our doors open,” Schaller said in a statement. “We are thrilled to share the Wawa story, our growth plans for the State College area and our commitment to partnering with and supporting local nonprofit organizations that positively impact their communities.”

Those thinking about attending the event can sign up in advance and share their favorite Wawa-related memories or stories for a chance to attend as “a VIP customer.” The form is available online at wawa.com/iframe/form/state-college-pa-community-day-event.

The convenience store giant’s expansion to Centre County took a serious leap in 2023 when it unveiled a proposed location along Benner Pike. Plans followed in 2024 for another potential store at the intersection of North Atherton Street and West Aaron Drive in Ferguson Township.

The Centre County Planning Commission in July approved a final land development plan for a third proposed Wawa store, this time where a former Snappy’s convenience store and gas station once stood in Potter Township.

To date, Wawa has not broken ground for any of its three proposed Centre County stores. The company has not provided construction timelines or responded to the Centre Daily Times’ requests for updates on the projects.
