A new drive-thru coffee shop is officially open in Penns Valley.
Country Time Coffee Company began serving customers Monday at 3585 Penns Valley Road in Spring Mills along state Route 45. The shop features a small but varied menu of signature coffee drinks, lattes, teas and energy drinks.
Country Time Coffee Company aims to serve quality drinks with positivity and friendliness, according to co-owner Steve Nowelski. He says initial concepts for the shop sought to combine the friendliness of a local diner that knows your name with the convenience of a speedy drive-thru.
“We felt a great way to do that, especially in a rural area like Spring Mills, is a drive-thru,” Nowelski told the Centre Daily Times. “Folks are going from place to place and don’t always have time to stop and navigate a parking lot or a long line. We think this is a great, convenient way to reach people.”
Country Time Coffee Company’s menu features several 16-ounce signature coffees flavored with French vanilla and cinnamon, hazelnut, chai tea, salted caramel and more. Signature coffees, which start at $5.65, are available iced, hot or blended. Customers can order any with a “cowboy shot” — a 4-ounce creamy coffee shooter — for an additional $2.99 fee.
The menu also features energy drinks infused with fruit flavors and “plant-based energy.” These, also served in 16-ounce cups, are available bubbly, regular or mixed for $4.65 each.
Customers can order traditional iced or hot coffee, hot chocolate and hot tea in 12- or 16-ounce cups starting at $2.99.
Nowelski left his corporate job to start Country Time Coffee Company alongside business partner Henry Yeagley, a Penns Valley native whose family farm surrounds the Spring Mills drive-thru shop. The pair of Penn State graduates met years ago and bonded over a shared dream of launching a small business that could bring something new to rural areas in central Pennsylvania.
If the Spring Mills drive-thru is successful, Nowelski said Country Time Coffee Company may eventually open more shops in Centre County. He hopes the freshly launched company will help address rural areas that are “underserved with great coffee.”
“A lot of this was investing back into a place that gave [Yeagley] so much,” said Nowelski, a Bucks County native. “I didn’t grow up here, but Centre County and this area have been such an important part of my life. As we thought about investing our time and energy somewhere, it felt better to do it somewhere that was important to us.”
Development at Country Time Coffee Company moved quickly this fall ahead of its late-November opening. On top of site work like installing driveways and a septic system, the team worked with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to adjust a no-passing zone along Route 45 to help make its entrance and exit safer for customers.
Country Time Coffee Company expects to operate from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends. The shop will close for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Country Time Coffee Company is the latest drive-thru coffee shop to open in Centre County. Another shop, 7 Brew Coffee, is expected to host a grand opening at 1923 S. Atherton St. in State College on Dec. 2.
