Reopening updates: Here’s what to know in Centre County on July 6

1 new COVID-19 case and 1 new death reported in Centre County, per state Department of Health

One new COVID-19 case and one new death were reported in Centre County on Monday, according to the state Department of Health.

That brings the county’s overall case total to 228 since the first case was reported March 20 and the death toll to eight, though the Centre County coroner’s office has only confirmed six deaths.

As of noon Monday, Deputy Coroner Judith Pleskonko said the county has not received official notification about the death.

How Centre County families are finding new ways to keep busy during summer of COVID-19

It’s tough to beat summers in Centre County. With beautiful weather, plenty of public parks and pools, and tons of sports leagues, people of all ages can usually find something they enjoy.

But this summer is different.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many changes, including the closures and cancellations of some Centre County summer staples and limitations on others. The closures have been especially difficult for parents who rely on summer programs and activities to occupy their kids.
