Lewistown parents welcome first baby of 2025 at Mount Nittany Health

Not only did a Lewistown couple ring in the new year with the birth of their son, he was also the first baby born at Mount Nittany Health in 2025.

Kristen and Dakoda Smeltz’s baby boy was born Thursday morning at Mount Nittany Health, marking him the first baby of 2025, the health system wrote in a news release.

“The birth of the New Year’s Baby is always a special occasion at Mount Nittany Health, and we are honored to be part of such a joyful moment for this family and our community. Congratulations to the Smeltz family!” the release states. The baby’s name was not released.

The Joseph V. and Suzanne P. Paterno Women and Children’s Services Unit welcomes nearly 1,300 new babies each year, according to its website.
