Updated schedule: Bridge work on US Route 322 near State College to cause detours
9 a.m. Nov. 17 update: Due to inclement weather, PennDOT announced that the work outlined below is being rescheduled to Tuesday and Wednesday.
Centre County crews are set to work on bridge repairs early next week on a portion of U.S. Route 322 in Harris Township, causing eastbound detours one day and westbound detours the next.
According to PennDOT, which outlined the work in a Thursday news release, the repairs will take place Monday and Tuesday about three miles southeast of State College Borough. Repairs will focus on the Route 322 bridge that spans state Route 45 in Boalsburg.
On Monday, Nov. 17, traffic on the eastbound lane of Route 322 heading toward Potters Mills will need to take the Old Fort exit and follow a detour using Route 45 and Boal Avenue back to Route 322. On Tuesday, work will switch to the westbound lane, meaning westbound traffic will have to take the Boalsburg/Atherton Street exit before following a detour using Boal Avenue and Route 45 back to Route 322.
In other words, eastbound traffic will be redirected Monday and not Tuesday. And westbound traffic will be redirected Tuesday and not Monday.
During that time, PennDOT’s Centre County Maintenance Organization will repair the bridge’s concrete and railing, in addition to installing safety delineators, which serve as yellow or orange transit dividers.
“This work will improve ride quality over the bridge, extend its service life, and enhance safety for motorists,” PennDOT said in the release.
PennDOT last performed repairs on the bridge Sept. 15. Repairs at the time involved only concrete, and a detour was in place for just one day.
