Centre County man died in crash that closed Snow Shoe road for hours, police say
A 69-year-old Centre County man died in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon after he ran through a stop sign in Snow Shoe Township, state police wrote in a public report issued Wednesday.
Ronald Folmar, of Karthaus, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, an 86-year-old man from Milesburg, suffered only minor injuries and did not require an ambulance.
The crash completely closed down a portion of East Sycamore Road, also known as state Route 144, for more than two hours before reopening by 3 p.m. Friday.
According to the public report, Folmar was traveling west on Fountain Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign and began traveling into the northbound lane of Route 144. The other driver attempted to avoid Folmar but was unsuccessful and T-boned his 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage.
The driver who sustained minor injuries was operating a heavy-duty pickup truck, a 1993 Dodge Ram 2500.
No other passengers were noted in the report. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene. State police were assisted by Snow Shoe Fire Company, Pine Glen Fire Company and Snow Shoe EMS.
This is the second death along that stretch of road since August. Last year, a 73-year-old pedestrian was killed while trying to cross the 700 block of East Sycamore Road. He was hit by the vehicle of a man accused of driving under the influence on a Saturday morning.
