State College cyclist dies after being hit by vehicle Sunday, police say
A State College cyclist died Monday after he was hit by a vehicle in Ferguson Township, the township’s police chief said Tuesday.
Charles Wells, 85, was hit about 4 p.m. Sunday along the 400 block of Blue Course Drive, police Chief Chris Albright said. The department’s preliminary investigation found Wells “made a quick lane change, crossing into the path of the car.”
Wells, who was treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center and died en route to Geisinger Medical Center in Montour County, died of multiple blunt force injuries, Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn said. His death was ruled accidental.
The driver, a 51-year-old State College woman, was uninjured.
The investigation is ongoing. Those who witnessed or have information about the crash are urged to call 800-479-0050.
Wells is one of three people who died after a crash that involved a bicycle between 2000 and 2020 in Centre County, according to state Department of Transportation data.
One death was reported in College Township in 2006, while a second death was reported in State College in 2017.
