Centre County Coroner’s Office releases additional details on fatal Walker Township crash

The Centre County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the man who died Sunday in a single-vehicle crash.

Jason Carroll, 42, died about 2 a.m Sunday after he crashed into a soybean field along the 2000 block of Zion Road, Centre County Deputy Coroner Debra Smeal wrote Tuesday in a statement.

Carroll died of blunt force trauma, Smeal wrote. His death was ruled accidental.

Carroll, of Walker Township, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, Smeal wrote Sunday.

A Spring Township police officer found the vehicle in the field about 1:10 a.m. Sunday during routine patrol, Ron Schall, Spring Township’s officer in charge, said Tuesday.

The department is not yet sure how the crash occurred, Schall said. There were no witnesses.

It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending, Spring Township police said.

Spring Township police and the coroner’s office are investigating the crash. Bellefonte EMS, Logan Fire Company, Undine Fire Company, Centre County Emergency Management Agency and Bellefonte police assisted.
