Centre County nonprofits can apply for local COVID-19 relief funding. Here’s how

To help support agencies struggling amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Centre County government is set to allocate a portion of CARES Act funding to area nonprofits.

The application to receive funding from the Centre County COVID-19 County Relief Block Grant program launched Monday morning. The Board of Commissioners was awarded $14,664,804 in June to help address challenges created by the pandemic, statewide shutdown and mitigation efforts.

“Centre County residents depend on our nonprofit organizations for essential services in a variety of critical areas,” the commissioners wrote in a statement Monday. “It is our hope that this funding will help to ease the financial hardship experienced by these organizations as they continue to provide invaluable and increased services to our citizens and communities.”

Eligible nonprofits must have experienced some negative impact resulting from COVID-19, be based in Centre County, serve Centre County and are required to be a 501(c)3 or or 501(c)19 in Centre County.

Nonprofits have until 5 pm. on Sept. 28 to apply for a one-time grant to be used to cover costs and any lost revenue from the coronavirus outbreak.

Grant checks are expected to be awarded at the end of October with first priority being given to nonprofits that have not received funding from any state or federal grant programs.
