Philadelphia man dead at Rockview state prison in Centre County, Pennsylvania DOC says

A Philadelphia man incarcerated at Rockview state prison died Monday, the prison’s top official said in a press release.

Reginald Hawkins, 69, was found unresponsive in his cell Monday morning, Rockview state prison Superintendent Bobbi Salamon said in the release. Staff and emergency medical service responded and attempted life-saving measures, she said.

Hawkins was pronounced dead about 7:30 a.m. at the prison, the Centre County Coroner’s Office told the Centre Daily Times. His cause and manner of death were not immediately released.

State police at Rockview are investigating, as required by state policy.

Hawkins was serving a five- to 10-year prison sentence after pleading guilty in February to a felony count of sexual assault in Philadelphia. He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of terroristic threats and was sentenced to three years of probation.

He was at Rockview state prison since May 2, the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections said in its release. The Defender Association of Philadelphia, which was listed as representing Hawkins, was not immediately available Monday morning.
