Still without power in Centre County? Here are some resources to help

Three days after a severe storm passed through Centre County and left significant damage, a number of resources are available for the thousands who are still waiting for power to be restored.

After 35,000 customers had service impacted by the storm, West Penn Power expects power will be restored by 11 p.m. Sunday to the majority of those still affected. As of early Friday afternoon, 3,932 customers were still without power, with outages scattered across the county, according to the energy provider’s website.

For those still affected, there are a number of ways to charge devices, take a hot shower or get supplies. Below is a list of resources.

Where to get water and ice

  • West Penn Power has made free water and ice available at Giant Stores in Centre County to customers with power outages. Stores are located at 255 Northland Center and 2121 S. Atherton St. in State College and 2699 Benner Pike in Bellefonte. At checkout, tell the cashier that you’re a FirstEnergy customer without power.

  • A water filling station is available at Alpha Fire Station located at 2598 Green Tech Drive, State College.

How to replace food

  • The State College Food Bank is providing supplemental and emergency food support. Residents do not need to be current food bank clients to receive assistance. To find out if you’re eligible and for more information, call the food bank at 814-234-2310.
  • If you are a SNAP recipient and lost food during the storm, you may be eligible to apply to receive replacement SNAP benefits for the amount of the lost food. More information and a form to apply is available through the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.
