Discussion of how Rockview’s closing will impact Centre County
Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration is closing Centre County’s Rockview state prison, and Clearfield County’s Quehanna Boot Camp. Together, they employ about 900 people, who are slated to be relocated in other facilities in the state.
The move saves tens of millions, the state says, but it also will upend the lives of hundreds of employees and families and could impact the area’s economy.
Join reporter Bret Pallotto, who has been covering this issue since the beginning, and editor Andrew Henderson for a livestream discussion about the closure process, the fate of the 5,000+ acres the prison and boot camp occupy, the potential long-term effects on the economy, housing costs, and school system, and what it means to other aspects of Centre County life.
