Need more time? Where to get an income tax filing extension in Centre County
Tax Day is Wednesday, April 15, but don’t despair if you’ve not yet filed.
Both Pennsylvania and the federal government allow eligible filers to extend their filing deadline up to six months, though owed taxes must be paid by April 15 no matter what.
At the federal level, filers must request an extension through the Internal Revenue Service’s Free File service. Note all taxpayers are eligible for a free federal tax return.
At the state level, those who do not owe any taxes will be granted an extension automatically if they already received one at the federal level. If you only need an extension on your state income taxes, you can request one through the Department of Revenue.
What about local earned income tax extensions in PA?
Local earned income taxes must also be taken care of by April 15, and you can request an extension by contacting your regional tax office.
