Bald Eagle Area School District appoints next superintendent

After appointing an interim superintendent in February, the Bald Eagle Area School District board of directors approved the hiring of a permanent superintendent of schools.

Effective June 1, Scott Graham will take over for Joseph Clapper as district superintendent. With 30 total years of experience in education, Graham has worked in rural school districts for over 15 years. He has a background in special education and has served as a high school and middle school principal.

“I am so happy and delighted to be, officially now, part of the Bald Eagle Area family,” he said during Tuesday’s virtual board meeting.

Graham plans to live in the district with his wife, who is also a teacher.

“One of the things that I’ve really been fighting for ... is equity for all students, and I think with this virus, it really shows the inequities that we do have across the state that not everybody has internet,” he said. “I continue to fight that fight because it’s so important that all students have a chance at being the most successful that they can be.”

Most recently, Graham worked in the Northern Potter School District from 2003 until 2019.

Former BEA Superintendent Jeff Miles stepped down earlier this year after being in the position for nearly a decade.

Graham’s contract will run through June 30, 2024.
