2 seriously injured after recent crash in rural Centre County, state police say
Two people were seriously injured Thursday in a crash that also spilled a large amount of home heating oil onto the rural Centre County road and surrounding area.
Cathleen D. Flick, 55, of Huston Township, and a 53-year-old Clinton County man were flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Williamsport, state police at Rockview said Tuesday in a crash information report.
The crash happened about 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of South Eagle Valley Road and the Interstate 80 eastbound on-ramp in Boggs Township.
Troopers said Flick was traveling northbound and then turned left in front of a southbound tanker truck, which struck the passenger’s side of Flick’s 2019 Ford Explorer and overturned. An estimated 1,000 gallons of heating oil and diesel leaked onto the road, police wrote.
Both vehicles were heavily damaged and towed from the scene. Flick was charged Saturday with a summary traffic violation for failing to yield while intending to turn left.
Troopers were assisted by Bellefonte, Mount Nittany and Pleasant Gap emergency medical services, Geisinger Life Flight, STAT MedEvac, Eagle Towing & Recovery, S & R Towing and Recovery and the state Department of Transportation.
The I-80 eastbound exit ramp was closed Thursday for several hours.
