A missing hunter in Penns Valley was found deceased Saturday after an extensive search.

First responders were initially dispatched to the 400 block of Green Grove Road in Gregg Township at about 4:30 p.m. Friday for a search detail. Numerous fire companies were called to the scene, and ATVs were also part of the search.

In a Facebook post around noon Saturday, Gregg Township Fire Company thanked the companies and community members who helped during the search. Among those who responded was the Centre County Coroner’s Office, the post says.

Additional information about the hunter has not been released. Messages with the Centre County Coroner’s Office and state police at Rockview have not been returned.

After hours of searching Friday night during below-freezing temperatures, efforts picked back up Saturday morning. Centre County 911 posted on Facebook that there would be heavy first responder presence in the Green Grove Road area, and urged people to avoid the area. Hunters who navigate the area were urged to use caution while first responders searched.

Millheim, Centre Hall and Miles fire companies were among those called back to assemble for the search at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The Pennsylvania Game Commission, Centre County Emergency Management Agency and Pennsylvania State Police were also on scene.
