A missing hunter who was found dead in Gregg Township Saturday morning likely died of natural causes, the Centre County Coroner’s Office said Sunday evening.

A death investigation is ongoing, Deputy Coroner Arika Rogers wrote in a press release, adding that there are no indications of foul play.

A search for the missing hunter started at about 4:30 p.m. Friday along Green Grove Road. Numerous fire companies and other first responders took part in a search throughout Friday night, in below-freezing temperatures. The hunter was found shortly after efforts restarted Saturday morning, at about 9:25 a.m., according to the release.

The hunter’s identity has not been released. The body was found in a wooded area on private property in the Spring Mills area by a neighboring landowner, Rogers wrote.

State police at Rockview have not responded to several requests for information about the investigation.

While preliminary findings indicate the hunter died due to natural causes, Rogers wrote that the final cause of death is pending further examinations and testing.

“The department would like to extend a sincere thank you to all responding agencies and emergency personnel for their professionalism and dedication during this incident,” Rogers wrote. “Special appreciation is also extended to the residents and neighboring landowners who assisted in the search efforts, cooperated with road closures, and provided support throughout the operation.”

Gregg Township, Millheim, Centre Hall and Miles fire companies were among those involved in the search, along with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Centre County Emergency Management Agency and Pennsylvania State Police.
