See how The Chicks (formerly Dixie Chicks) included Osaze Osagie in video for new protest song
The country music group formerly known as The Dixie Chicks released Thursday a new protest song and music video that ended with a list of Black people who have been killed, including State College’s Osaze Osagie.
The trio now known as The Chicks released “March March” ahead of their July album titled “Gaslighter.”
The music video featured images and videos of the civil rights movement from past decades, and dedicated more than one minute to a rapidly changing list of Black people who were killed.
Osagie, who was mentioned 3 minutes, 20 seconds into the music video, was fatally shot in March 2019 by State College police.
Three white officers responded to the 29-year-old’s Marvin Gardens apartment to serve a mental health warrant, but one officer fatally shot Osagie after he approached officers with a knife in a narrow hallway.
All three officers were cleared of any wrongdoing by Centre County District Attorney Bernie Cantorna, who released a 228-page report that found the officer who shot Osagie was in a life-or-death situation.
The state police Heritage Affairs Section found race was not a factor in the shooting. The 3/20 Coalition has long challenged that assertion.
An internal review found each officer acted in accordance with their training. The Osagie family in September announced they plan to sue the department and the three officers who responded.
