Mount Nittany Health to expand in Centre County with a new outpatient medical center
To address its expanding provider group and to meet the health needs of the community, Mount Nittany Health announced Tuesday that it plans to build a new outpatient medical center in Centre County.
The health care system will build a multi-story outpatient health care facility in the planned 700-acre multi-use Toftrees West development in Patton Township, it announced in a press release.
The facility size and range of services is yet to be determined, but is planned to open in late 2023, the release states.
A significant reason Mount Nittany Health is developing the center is because its 170-provider Mount Nittany Physician Group has outgrown its current locations, according to the release.
“We are pleased to add this new facility and to further enhance the services we provide to the community,” Kathleen Rhine, Mount Nittany Health CEO, wrote in the release. “We continue to welcome highly-talented physicians and providers to our health system and our community. We need additional space to keep growing. This facility, in conjunction with the investments we are making at Mount Nittany Medical Center, support our mission of healthier people, a stronger community.”
The outpatient medical center will support expansion of its 30 specialty practices. It will “provide greater access to a range of outpatient health care services in a single location,” the release states.
“The addition of the outpatient medical center will allow Mount Nittany Health to meet the increased demand for patient-centered care and the growth of the Mount Nittany Physicians Group as we bring even more diverse services and highly-skilled providers to our health system,” wrote Dr. Upendra Thaker, Mount Nittany Health Chief Medical Officer. “This will have a positive impact on the health of our community with better access to high quality care and services in a single location.”
In September, the health system announced it would invest about $50 million to upgrade its facilities, including the construction of a new bed tower on the hospital’s campus.
