One way traffic on Pike Street in Lemont will once again be implemented later this month as College Township begins construction in the second phase of the Pike Street Traffic Calming and Accessibility Project.

Beginning May 18, a one-way traffic pattern on Pike Street will be in effect during construction, according to a release from College Township. The one-way traffic will be maintained in a general northeast direction toward East College Avenue between Elmwood and Dale streets, the release stated. Construction will be done on one side of Pike Street while traffic is maintained on the opposite side.

“Every effort will be made to ensure that access to the businesses located on Pike Street remains open throughout the project,” the release stated.

This traffic pattern will remain in effect throughout construction, which is expected to finish by mid-October.

Curbing, stormwater upgrades, delineated parallel parking, curb ramps, and a full sidewalk along both sides of Pike Street from the intersection with Elmwood Street to Dale Street are the proposed improvements, according to the release. Phase 1 of the project included waterline and gas line relocation work in anticipation of this year’s construction activities, and was completed in 2021.

Bowman Excavating, Paving, and Concrete, of Bellefonte, is the contractor on this $1,517,160 project.

All work is weather and schedule dependent. Project updates can be found on the township’s website, www.collegetownship.org, Twitter and Facebook.
