Centre County Coroner identifies woman killed in crash on U.S. Route 322 near State College

The Centre County woman who died Wednesday in a head-on crash with a semitrailer on U.S. Route 322 has been identified.

Toni L. Freeman, 67, of Bellefonte, died Wednesday afternoon from blunt force trauma to the head, Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers wrote in a press lease Thursday. The death was ruled accidental.

Freeman was driving an SUV and crossed into oncoming traffic about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday along the 5600 block of Route 322 in Harris Township, State College Borough police Lt. Kelly Aston said Wednesday. The collision occurred where the the highway is reduced to two lanes separated by a yellow centerline.

Freeman died before she could be transported to a hospital. The driver of the semitrailer was not injured, Aston said.

An investigation is ongoing, Sayers wrote, and police previously said drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.

The Mount Nittany Expressway was closed for more than four hours Wednesday.
