State College seeks feedback on ‘multi-generational’ zoning rewrite. Here’s what’s next
With significant steps being taken in State College’s yearslong rewrite of the zoning ordinance, borough officials are looking for additional feedback on a document that will help guide what the future of the borough looks like.
State College Borough Council will see the plan and recommendations during the council meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 8, and State College Planning and Community Development Director Ed LeClear expects there to be more meetings on it this fall.
He anticipates the council will have all changes they want by the Oct. 20 meeting, which will go to the consulting team that’s been doing the draft. They will have about a month to revise it, he said, and then the borough will send it to the county for their review. The borough will likely see it again in February or March.
LeClear encourages the public to participate in the process and give their feedback, which can be submitted by email to zonestatecollege@statecollegepa.us.
“The borough has not done this since 1959 so it is a generational — In fact I’d argue it’s probably a multi-generational issue,” LeClear said. “We are living in a rural housing crisis. And so how we provide leadership as a community to try to — we’re not going to fix it but at least to try to help. It’s really worthy work to be doing, and we hope people are able to participate.”
All comments received have been posted online, word for word. LeClear said it was important to him that they made sure there was no perception of the borough screening comments, so everything sent in is posted in full.
The next time for people to actively engage would be during the council’s meeting on Monday, he said.
“Council has put this on a really fast track, so we anticipate a lot of meetings this September and October. So any readers that are interested, it’s going to be fast and furious,” he said.
