A Snow Shoe couple welcomed a new addition early Thursday morning at Mount Nittany Medical Center — the first baby born in 2026 at Centre County’s only maternity unit.

Mount Nittany Health announced the arrival of its 2026 New Year’s baby in a press release Thursday afternoon, offering congratulations to parents Elliot and Caleigh Peters. Their baby boy, Myles, weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces. His exact time of birth was not shared, but Mount Nittany wrote that he was born early in the morning.

“Welcoming the New Year’s Baby is a long-standing tradition at Mount Nittany Health — our team is honored to be part of this milestone and extends their heartfelt congratulations to the Peters family,” the press release stated.

The hospital’s Joseph V. and Suzanne P. Paterno Women and Children’s Services Unit welcomes more than 1,300 babies each year. Last month, the hospital announced the most popular baby names of babies born there during 2025. Myles didn’t make the list — Oliver, Hudson, James, John and Lucas were the top five boy names — but there’s plenty of time to catch up in the new year.
