Construction on a new fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant is now underway in Patton Township.
A 2,500-square-foot Cava restaurant chain location is being built at 1752 N. Atherton St. on a 3.16-acre parcel of land in the 30-acre Patton Crossing development.
At the recent Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County Centre Region Municipal Managers Update forum, Patton Township Manager Amy Farkas said ground was broken on the Cava in late January. The restaurant’s final land development plans, which were approved by the township’s supervisors in May 2025, show 40 parking spots to be constructed, along with a pickup window.
The Patton Crossing location will be Cava’s first in Centre County — the chain has nine other locations across Pennsylvania, mostly concentrated in the Lancaster and Philadelphia areas. Each location serves build-your-own bowls, pitas, sides and desserts.
The restaurant will be located at the front of the Patton Crossing development, directly across Winterberry Drive — Patton Crossing’s entry road — from Aldi, which was the first business to be constructed in the development.
Originally, a Centre 1st Bank was planned at the Cava site, and a groundbreaking ceremony was even held for the bank in November 2022, but those plans eventually fell through. Cava stepped in soon after, Farkas said in 2024.
What else is planned at Patton Crossing?
Long before development kicked off at the Patton Crossing though, the land there was once the former Penn State Mobile Home Park. That land was purchased in 2012 by 1752 North Atherton Street Associates for $5.5 million, and in 2017 it was rezoned, making it multi-use for business and residential buildings.
The master plan for Patton Crossing’s future developments was approved in 2019 and shows 20 developments to be constructed in the area by 2042, across up to 12 phases. These developments could include restaurants, retail stores, a hotel, community gathering spaces, affording housing and more.
Aldi’s construction was a part of the master plan’s first phase, and the Cava development, along with the recent construction of a retaining wall, is part of the plan’s second phase.
A timeline for the Cava’s construction has yet to be provided, and it is unclear what will be built next at the site.
