What to know about road closures, parking for Donald Trump’s rally in State College
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is visiting State College this weekend, and with that will come a few road closures.
Trump, the first presidential candidate to visit Happy Valley this election cycle, will hold a rally at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center at 4 p.m. Saturday. Curtin Road will be closed all day between University Drive and Porter Road, according to College Township.
The State College Regional Airport will remain open on Saturday but those traveling to the airport should anticipate road closures on Fox Hill Road and other connecting roads between 2:55 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., and 5:05 p.m. and 5:25 p.m., according to a post on the airport’s Facebook page.
Of course, these arrival and departure times are subject to change without notice based on when Trump actually arrives and departs.
Those flying out of the State College Regional Airport should also give themselves extra travel time and arrive at least an hour and a half before their flight to avoid potential delays.
People who need to get to Mount Nittany Medical Center should use Orchard Road or Interstate 99, Penn State wrote in a news release.
Although the rally starts at 4 p.m., doors will open at noon. General admission tickets are available online through his campaign site.
Prepaid parking is available through midnight Friday or until sold out at the commuter lots around the BJC, including Jordan East, Stadium West and Porter North for $11, according to Penn State’s transportation site. Event parking at Eisenhower Parking Deck is also available for about $5.
Permits are virtual and enforced using your license plate, the site states, and for large events, an attendant may ask to see the permit or confirm that you have the correct license plate registered.
Those who have not paid in advance will see day-of rates at the area lots ($20 at Jordan East and Porter North, $10 at Eisenhower Parking Deck and $10 at East Deck).
While additional parking areas may be available, Transportation Services cautioned that lots will reach capacity through Saturday morning. Attendees should follow directions along roadside message boards and staff around the event.
The Stadium West lot will be closed until 2:30 p.m. Saturday due to a Penn State men’s hockey game. The Orange L South Lot will be closed all day Saturday.
CATA also announced that due to the road closures around the Bryce Jordan Center, all CATA routes except the Red Link will follow the Game Day Detour schedule all day Saturday. For more information, visit catabus.com/rider-alerts.
With two weeks left until the Presidential Election on Nov. 5, both Trump’s and Harris’ campaigns have been focusing on battleground states like Pennsylvania. Trump is also expected to attend the Nittany Lions’ home college football game Nov. 2 against Ohio State. The university has encouraged fans, those attending the game or anyone visiting campus on Nov. 2 to arrive early.
