A chicken salad has been recalled from Publix, Kroger, Food Lion, Wegmans, Harris Teeter
Ukrop’s Chicken Salad has been recalled at some of the nation’s largest grocery chains after a customer discovered a food allergy problem.
The chicken salad had almonds, an allergen. That wasn’t listed among the ingredients, making it an undeclared allergen. It’s no problem if you don’t have an almond allergy. It could be a minor to major problem if you have an almond allergy.
So, Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods issued a recall that touched Kroger, the nation’s second largest grocery seller and parent company of Harris Teeter; Food Lion, No. 4 grocer Ahold Delhaize’s main chain; No. 5 Publix; and Wegmans. (Rankings from FoodIndustry.com’s report of gross sales).
According to the USDA list of stores that probably received the chicken salad:
▪ The Publix stores likely were limited to 15 stores in Virginia.
▪ There were too many Krogers to list in Virginia, nine in West Virginia and one Kroger in the chain’s home state of Ohio.
▪ Just as with Kroger in Virginia, too many Food Lion stores to list there. There were six Food Lions in North Carolina.
▪ Three Harris Teeter stores in Virginia.
▪ Three Wegmans stores in Virginia.
