After 14 years of ‘loyalty,’ family abandons cat at shelter. ‘Every day she waits’
An affectionate cat is on the hunt for a new home to spend her golden years in after her owners left her at an Indiana shelter.
“14 Years of love… then she lost everything,” the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said in a Feb. 25 Facebook post.
“She had a family. She had comfort, routine, and love. But then, after a lifetime of loyalty, she was surrendered to the shelter—alone, confused, and heartbroken.”
According to her pet profile, the Calico cat spent seven years with one branch of the same family then spent the last seven years with the other branch before she was left at the shelter in January.
“Juliet has been through so much. When she was just a year old, she had all four paws declawed, leaving her vulnerable and now suffering from arthritis in her hips and back,” the shelter said.
She’s also a bit overweight, which puts more pressure on her joints and makes it difficult for her to use certain types of litterboxes.
“I’ve always used the litterbox faithfully until about a month ago. Most likely, my owner did not know that having a litterbox with a top opening or high sides is just too difficult for me to climb into or out of. A low-sided litterbox with soft, fine-grained litter will be much easier and less painful,” her pet profile said.
Overall, Juliet is a people-loving cat who adores curling up next to her person.
“This sweet senior girl is affectionate, playful, and loves being held. She just needs a calm, quiet home where she can feel safe again. A soft bed, a low-sided litterbox, and a warm lap to curl up in—that’s all she’s asking for,” the shelter said in the post. “But every day she waits, she loses a little more hope. No 14-year-old cat should be spending her days in a shelter.”
