20-pound cat was trapped under car for miles, CA cops say. Then, driver hears meowing
A 20-pound cat traveled a couple miles trapped beneath a car until the driver heard its meows, California police say.
A driver called Livermore Police Animal Services at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, after hearing meowing coming from their car, the Livermore Police Department said in an Instagram post.
Officer Kathy Holmes arrived to find “a 20-pound Maine Coon wedged tightly between an exhaust manifold and an engine block,” police said.
Holmes thinks the “furry friend” was hiding inside the wheel well “to keep warm from the cold,” according to police.
It’s believed the cat traveled about 3 miles trapped in the wheel well until the driver heard its meows and called for help, police said.
Holmes called in some help from a worker with Golden State Towing, according to police.
In a video shared by police, you can hear meowing as Holmes looks under the car.
Nearly an hour after arriving, Holmes freed the cat underneath the car, police said.
“Oh. Got her,” Holmes says lying on her side as she pulls the cat from beneath the car, the video shows.
As Holmes rushed the cat to a veterinarian, the cat’s owner called police “looking for their missing kitty.”
The cat, who was hurt but “expected to make a full recovery,” was reunited with its owner later that day, police said.
Livermore is about 45-mile southeast from San Francisco.
