A glider crash into a Utah mountain killed the pilot and ignited a small wildfire, firefighters reported.

The glider crashed on Mahogany Mountain near Morgan at about 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, the Mountain Green Fire Protection District said in a news release.

The glider crashed at an elevation of about 7,000 feet, firefighters said.

The pilot was found dead at the scene of the crash, Morgan County Fire & EMS said in a news release. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The crash sparked a wildfire on the mountain that was contained to 3 acres, firefighters said.

After crews contained the fire, a fire truck hit a rock on the way down the mountain and had to be towed, the Mountain Green Fire Protection District said.

Morgan is about a 45-mile drive northeast from Salt Lake City.
