See the latest election results from the State College and Bellefonte council races
State College and Bellefonte are set to have new mayors, and Tuesday’s election also determined several members of borough council in both municipalities.
Mayoral candidates in both boroughs ran unopposed. Ezra Nanes secured the Democratic nomination for State College mayor in May’s primary election, when he defeated Jim Leous with a 2-1 majority.
Through the campaign, Nanes supported the progressive Central PA United candidates for State College borough council — Divine Lipscomb, Gopal Balachandran and Richard Biever. The three newcomers to public office had no problem securing the three open seats on council, all garnering more than double the votes of Republican Jacob Werner.
“I am so proud of State College, our townships, and our State College Area School District,” Nanes wrote in a Tuesday night tweet. “Our community voted its values and stood for inclusivity, equity, and vision. I am so excited to be a part of creating our future with all of our newly elected officials!”
In Bellefonte, Gene “Buddy” Johnson Jr., running on both Democratic and Republican tickets, is set to replace Mayor Tom Wilson, who did not run for a third term. Johnson did not have a primary opponent.
Below are the unofficial results for contested council races.
