Over 50% of Centre County cast a ballot in the midterm election. Here’s how they voted
Centre County voters cast more than 60,000 votes in Tuesday’s midterm election, in which voters elected a new governor and U.S. Senator, as well as representatives in the State House and U.S. Congress.
Centre County had a 57.62% voter turnout; out of the 107,425 registered voters, 61,898 voted in the election, according to the county’s unofficial results data. Just under 15,300 votes were cast via absentee or mail-in ballots.
As of Oct. 25, 42.23% (45,387 voters) of Centre County voters are registered Democrats and 39.70% (42,668 voters) are registered Republicans. Less than 1% of voters combined are registered with the Green party or Libertarian. Just under 14% of county voters have no affiliation and 3.5% are registered as “other.”
Below is how Centre County voters supported candidates compared to the statewide trends. These results are unofficial as of Wednesday afternoon.
United States Senator
Statewide, Democrat John Fetterman won the race for U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania against Republican Mehmet Oz. The Associated Press called the race just before 2 a.m. Wednesday. Unofficial results have Fetterman with 50.5% of the vote (2,638,456 votes) and Oz with 47.1% of the vote (2,458,607 votes).
Libertarian candidate Erik Gerhardt received 1.4% of the vote (71,369 votes), Green party candidate Richard Weiss received 0.6% of the vote (29,475 votes) and Keystone party candidate Daniel Wassmer received 0.5% of the vote (25,808 votes).
In Centre County, voters favored Fetterman over Oz. Fetterman won 32,076 votes from Centre County and Oz received 27,820 votes.
Gerhardt received 832 votes, Weiss received 370 votes and Wassmer received 354 votes.
Pennsylvania governor
Statewide, Democrat Josh Shapiro won the race for Pennsylvania governor against Republican Doug Mastriano. The Associated Press called the race shortly after midnight Wednesday. Unofficial results have Shapiro with 55.8% of the vote (2,916,604 votes) and Mastriano with 42.4% of the vote (2,214,460 votes).
Libertarian Matt Hackenburg received 1% of the vote (50,515 votes), Green party candidate Christina Digiulio received 0.5% of the vote (23,580 votes), and Keystone party candidate Joe Soloski received 0.4% of the vote (19,968 votes).
In Centre County, voters favored Shapiro over Mastriano. Shapiro won 35,230 votes from Centre County and Oz received 25,124 votes.
Hackenburg received 648 votes, Digiulio received 207 votes and Soloski received 294 votes.
