PA primary results: Here are the numbers from school board races across Centre County

Centre County residents headed to the polls on Tuesday to cast their votes for the 2023 municipal primaries, which included several competitive school board races.

State College and Bellefonte both had 11 candidates vying for five open seats, and Penns Valley Area had ten candidates and five seats up for grabs. All candidates cross-filed, appearing on both the Republican and Democratic ballots.

The months leading up to the primary elections have also seen a rise in local PACs and slates for school board races. The majority of State College candidates were split into two slates, United for SCASD and Slate for State, with only Laurel Zydney and Megan Layng running as independent candidates. Layng was originally aligned with United for SCASD but parted ways with the PAC in April after an incident where Layng was escorted out of State High by security.

Bellefonte saw the return of Win4Bellefonte, a group that swept the 2021 campaign season and saw all four of its candidates elected to the board. Penns Valley’s The Valleys’ Voice is a new slate this year with candidates Dan Hall, Mike Pase, Molly Miller and Kim Kellerman-Domin.

The following are unofficial results for school board races from Tuesday’s primary election.

As of 11:30 p.m., all 87 precincts have reported in-person votes and 86 of 87 have reported mail votes.

Erica Danneker filed only on the Republican ballot. Gary Heverly Jr. filed only on the Democrat ballot.
