Amazon Prime members can save money on gas at select Pennsylvania stations. Here’s how

Roughly 80 million Americans are expected to travel throughout the country this Thanksgiving, but filling your gas tank on the road could put a real strain on your wallet.

Relief may be in sight for Amazon Prime subscribers, who could save nearly $70 per year on gas at qualifying stations through a new fuel savings program. The online commerce giant already offers free and fast shipping, TV and movie streaming and select retail discounts for its subscribers, among other benefits.

So, which Pennsylvania gas stations are participating, and how does the program work? Here’s what you need to know.

How much can Prime members save on gas?

Amazon Prime’s gas savings program, announced in a media release Oct. 23, allows members to save 10 cents per gallon at roughly 7,000 bp, Amoco and ampm gas stations throughout the U.S. Savings may vary for each Prime member.

The average Prime member will save about $70 each year by using the program, Amazon says. The company reached that estimate by calculating “an average of 675 gallons used per year, and an average of 21.5 miles per gallon used on light-duty economy cars,” citing federal transportation data.

How can I sign up for fuel savings through Amazon Prime?

Amazon Prime members must link their membership to earnify, bp’s loyalty program with its own free mobile app.

Follow these steps to link. your account and qualify for fuel savings:

  1. Become an Amazon Prime member if you’re not already. Memberships cost $130 per year or $14.99 per month.
  2. Download the earnify app.
  3. Visit amazon.com/fuelsavings.
  4. Link your Amazon account to an earnify account through the link above.
  5. Use the earnify’s app store locator to find the nearest participating bp, Amoco or ampm station.
  6. Redeem your membership at the pump by entering your phone number your linked payment method. Prime members can also redeem at the pump through the earnify app by selecting their gas station of choice and noting the pump they’re using.

According to its website, bp operates about 175 gas stations in Pennsylvania. Amoco operates nearly 50 stations across Pennsylvania, but most are located near Pittsburgh. ampm, meanwhile, is mostly concentrated in California and across the western half of the country.

Here in Centre County, Prime subscribers can save at the pump through the Milesburg Amoco station (875 N. Eagle Valley Road) or the Lamar bp station (5600 Nittany Valley Drive) in southern Clinton County.

Amoco and ampm are both owned by bp.

Amazon is far from the only company offering savings at the pump this November. Sheetz, which operates hundreds of stations across Pennsylvania, is slashing the price of its Unleaded 88 gas by 40 cents per gallon through Nov. 30.
