See latest Centre County road conditions, closures and more as ice storm rolls in
Centre County government and outpatient offices of two of the area’s major health care providers closed early Friday due to expected icy conditions in the region. The Centre Area Transportation Authority suspended services early on Friday due to the weather, which began to impact travel on several roadways in the afternoon.
A winter weather advisory is in effect through 7 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27.
Centre County government offices closed at noon, the sheriff’s office announced, as did Patton Township offices. Mount Nittany urgent care facilities and outpatient departments in hospitals closed at noon, as well as Penn Highlands urgent care facilities. A Geisinger customer service representative said outpatient facilities are operating as usual in the State College area.
The Centre Area Transportation Authority ended services at 4 p.m., the agency announced on Facebook. The last CATA buses went out at 3 p.m.
Friday afternoon, State College borough asked that residents remove their vehicles from the streets to allow crews to plow.
Vehicle bans, including of buses, RVs and motorcycles, went into effect at 10 a.m. on the entirety of Interstate 80 and Interstate 99. A 45 mph speed limit is in effect on both interstates, as well U.S. Route 322 from State College to Lewistown in Mifflin County.
At least two crashes resulted in road closures after ice began covering the area. U.S. Route 220 appears closed in both directions as of 4 p.m. after a tractor trailer flipped near the Centre County-Clinton County border. A multivehicle crash on Interstate 80 west near Philipsburg, which saw a tractor trailer become stuck off the shoulder, was cleared shortly before 4 p.m. The weather has also caused traffic disruptions on state route 350 from Philipsburg to Blair County.

Live traffic camera feeds are also available for Interstate 80, Interstate 99, U.S. Route 322, state Route 45 in Centre Hall, state Route 144 outside Centre Hall, the intersection of Benner Pike and College Avenue and various portions of Atherton Street.
