Amid print changes, Centre Daily Times’ mission remains the same

Monday is the day after the Super Bowl, but if you’ve been flipping through the pages of your Centre Daily Times, you can stop searching. Our print edition doesn’t have the final score, or whether to congratulate Chiefs fans or 49ers fans.

That information, plus insights, analysis and behind-the-scenes photos and videos, is on centredaily.com, where readers have been able to access a range of Super Bowl-related stories throughout the week, as well as in the Sports Extra portion of our eEdition.

For readers who have been following us in print over the past month, or those who follow the ever-evolving climate of today’s news media, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Publishing Center for our parent company, McClatchy, recently made staffing changes that necessitated an earlier deadline. And as previously announced, our print operations have moved to Harrisburg effective Sunday — a difficult decision made to keep our company strong and position ourselves for the future.

An early deadline means our print edition will no longer include late breaking news and sports results. Other traditional print elements such as lotto numbers are also no longer available in print.

But you’ll still get local in-depth news and sports coverage every day, and will find that we continue to be creative with our resources and how we provide essential journalism to our communities. Take, for example, the Super Bowl. We partnered with the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism at Penn State to bring readers on-the-ground stories from Miami. Throughout the week, we’ve brought you exclusive stories about Penn Staters involved in the biggest game of the year.

When it comes to late sports games such as Penn State men’s basketball’s big win Wednesday night over Indiana, you could find the results and video on our site right after the game. If you follow reporter Jon Sauber on social media, you’d have live updates throughout the game, too. In print, we followed it up with analysis and looks at what’s next for the team.

We encourage you to supplement your news diet with our eEdition, continuous coverage at centredaily.com and breaking news, sports and business newsletters.

Where and when we print has no effect on our mission as a news organization. We remain committed to providing essential journalism that connects our communities.

As always, thank you for reading the CDT. Covering local news and sports requires resources, and we can’t do so without the support of subscribers.
