We need your help to add an internship focused on growth & development reporting in Centre County
It’s that season again when we start to reflect on the year that’s coming to a close, though it doesn’t quite seem possible that we’re back here so soon.
Through 2021, the Centre Daily Times continued coverage of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, including vaccination efforts, business recovery and impact on our local schools. But we recognized COVID wasn’t the only issue affecting our communities. We turned our attention to other topics as well, and heard feedback from readers about areas of importance.
One of those areas is growth and development. Student living, affordable housing, sustainability — these are critical stories with direct impact on Centre County residents, and we want and need more of them.
So, with your help, we hope to add a full-time summer 2022 intern whose energy would be dedicated to local growth and development issues for at least 10 weeks.
We’ve launched our Fall News Fund Campaign at centredaily.com/donate, where readers and supporters of local journalism can contribute to help us reach our goal of enhancing our team with our first full-time summer intern.
For years now, we have welcomed talented young journalists each semester to work alongside our editors and reporters. These interns earn college credit and have produced some tremendous content. We’re excited about the impact a full-time news intern could have, and I can’t wait to introduce that reporter to our readers.
We like to say that the Centre Daily Times is a small but mighty crew. That crew simply works nonstop for a community they care about deeply, with story lists a mile long. We need help to tell more of those stories, and are always seeking creative solutions for how to do that.
It’s also the season of gratitude, and at the CDT we’re grateful for our community’s generous support through previous fundraising campaigns. That support helped keep our reporters on the ground throughout one of the most challenging times our industry has faced, when the loss of advertising revenue posed a grave threat to news organizations across the country.
If you made a donation in a previous campaign, we hope you’ll also support this effort to bring on a summer intern. If you have not yet donated, we hope you’ll consider doing so. Your donation is 100% tax deductible and will be made to our partner nonprofit organization. Please visit centredaily.com/donate.
If you prefer to send in a check, please make it payable to our nonprofit partner “Journalism Funding Partners,” and in the notes field on the check write “Centre Daily Times.” If you include your email address, they’ll send you a tax donation letter confirming your gift.
Checks should be mailed to: McClatchy, 1601 Alhambra Blvd, Suite 100, Sacramento, CA 95816.
