When “Big Ten Saturday Night” kicks off Sept. 2 with West Virginia visiting No. 7 Penn State, most viewers will watch the game on NBC, but some others might matter even more.

All NBC games stream on Peacock and the streaming service will have its own slate of exclusive games. Viewers who hope to watch those — which feature five teams ranked among the first 13 in the preseason Top 25 — will have to sign up for the service.

Those selling the service would quickly point to deals that come for as little as $1.99 a month. And, if even a portion of the million or so typical viewers for a regular season college football game buy in, that’s a nice bit of income.

Michigan plays its exclusive game the opening weekend against East Carolina, which probably prompts memories of the launch of the Big Ten Network for some fans. When that outlet launched in 2007, Michigan played Appalachian State and lost in a game that only aired on BTN.

Penn State, after opening in prime time on NBC, plays Delaware in a Peacock exclusive game at noon Sept. 9.

Other early season Top 25 teams set for games exclusively on Peacock include No. 13 Notre Dame (Sept. 16 vs. Central Michigan), No. 11 Washington (Sept. 16 at Michigan State) and No. 3 Ohio State (Oct. 7 vs. Maryland.)
