Penn State football lands commitment from 4-star quarterback Christian Veilleux

Penn State football’s 2021 recruiting class has its quarterback. Four-star recruit Christian Veilleux announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions Wednesday afternoon via his personal Twitter account.

Veilleux is the third-highest rated commitment in the class behind fellow four-star prospects Landon Tengwall, an offensive lineman who committed in late March, and Jaylen Reed, a safety who committed earlier this month. The quarterback, who goes to high school at the Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, led his team to a 7-3 record as a junior.

He’s listed at 6-foot-3.5 and 201 pounds on his 247Sports recruiting profile and chose the Nittany Lions over the three other schools he announced in his final four earlier this month: Clemson, Duke and Tennessee.

Veilleux’s commitment makes him the first quarterback to commit to the Nittany Lions under new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kirk Ciarrocca, who was hired in December. The four-star recruit is listed as the No. 15 pro-style quarterback in the country in the 247Sports Composite rankings. However, Veilleux does show some mobility, according to the scouting report on his profile written by 247Sports’ Brian Dohn.

“Good frame and size,” the report reads. “Pocket passer with mobility. Release is usually compact, especially on short throws. Ball comes out of hand freely. Accurate, particularly on short throws to edge and intermediate routes. Throws catchable ball with touch. Good footwork and base works in unison with arm. Gets through progressions. Plays composed. Drags ball a little at start of throwing motion. Improving arm strength will help on long throws. Adding strength will help. Sometimes relies more on touch than fully committing to throw. Has to learn to play under center. Multi-year starter at Top 20 program.”

Dohn projects him as a potential day three pick when he enters the NFL Draft.

Veilleux is the 10th recruit to commit to the 2021 class and the seventh in April to do so. His addition to the class brings it to No. 14 in the country in the 247Sports Composite team rankings and sixth in the Big Ten.
